Access fee

An administrative fee will be charged before data sharing. The fee to access data for research from SCAPIS helps cover the project's running costs. Access fees are reviewed regularly. The costs are:

• 6 000 SEK + VAT per application for initiation of the application process. Please note that this initiation cost is mandatory for all applications even if the application is not approved.
• An additional cost of 45 000 SEK + VAT for access to data including up to 250 variables. For access to data of more than 250 variables an extra cost of 150 SEK + VAT per variable applied for will be added. For access to a total of 950 or more variables, a maximum fee of 150 000 SEK + VAT is applied.
• Access to register data provided directly by SCAPIS (in crude format, not derived variables) generates an additional cost of 10 000 SEK + VAT per selected register.
• If a new linkage to an external register is requested, there is an additional cost of 18 000 SEK + VAT for one register. If linkage to more than one external register is requested, the cost will increase in proportion to the additional administrative efforts required. In addition, the other involved register holders will charge their fees.
• Access to genotype data (genetics) generates an additional cost of 12 500 SEK + VAT up to 100 SNPs (single nucleotide polymorphisms). Extra SNPs, above 100, costs 150 SEK + VAT per SNP. For access to a total of 500 or more SNPs, a maximum fee of 75 000 SEK + VAT is applied.
• Access to image data: The access fee for one application including one data typeis 45 000 SEK +VAT and for every additional data type 10 000 SEK +VAT will be added. The maximum fee will be 75 000 SEK +VAT. A maximum of 10 variables can be applied for in these applications.
• The invoice will be sent from the SCAPIS Office after handling of the application and the case is closed.

New access fee model from the SCAPIS Re-examination data release

Starting on the date of the SCAPIS Re-examination data release, a new access fee model will apply.

Under the new model:

• The cost of SCAPIS core variables will be calculated separately for each examination: the SCAPIS Pilot examination, SCAPIS Baseline examination, and SCAPIS Re-examination.
• The maximum fee for SCAPIS core variables (Pilot, Baseline, and Re-examination) in a dataset is SEK 300,000 + VAT.

Fees for SCAPIS core variables

The maximum total fee for SCAPIS core variables is SEK 300,000 + VAT.

Cost example 1

A study already has data from the Baseline examination and applies for an additional 100 variables from the Re-examination. The fee will be SEK 51,000 + VAT, consisting of:

• SEK 6,000 for initiation of the application process
• SEK 45,000 for 100 Re-examination variables

Cost example 2

A study requests 100 Pilot examination variables, 100 Baseline examination variables, and 100 Re-examination variables. The total fee will be SEK 106,000 + VAT, consisting of:

• SEK 6,000 for initiation of the application process
• SEK 10,000 for Pilot examination variables
• SEK 45,000 for Baseline examination variables
• SEK 45,000 for Re-examination variables

Variables from local substudies and ancillary studies

Variables from local substudies and ancillary studies are charged on a per-study basis and are not included in the calculation of fees for SCAPIS core variables.

Cost example 3

An application includes 300 Baseline examination variables, variables from one local substudy with more than 100 variables, variables from one ancillary study with fewer than 100 variables, and 8 Re-examination variables.

The total fee will be SEK 82,500 + VAT, consisting of:

• SEK 6,000 for initiation of the application process
• SEK 45,000 for the first 250 Baseline examination variables
• SEK 7,500 for Baseline examination variables 251–300 (50 × SEK 150)
• SEK 12,000 for variables from the local substudy
• SEK 6,000 for variables from the ancillary study
• SEK 6,000 for 8 Re-examination variables

Transition to the new cost model

Please note:

• Applications submitted before the SCAPIS Re-examination data release date will be subject to the previous cost model.
• Applications submitted before the SCAPIS Re-examination data release date but supplemented with SCAPIS Re-examination variables after the release date will be subject to the new cost model.
• All fees are currently under review. Any revisions will be published on this website once finalised.
